What goes around and all that. I don't have a problem with eating it as long as we know what we are eating. It is important that we have choices x

I don't mind what is on sale as long as the label is correct.
This scandal means there could be other things in there.
In France they ate cats and maybe rats in the war.... but I wopuld like to know if my ready meal has cat in it when it's labelled beef.
It's damaging people's trust...

Indeed! 'Deception' lies at the heart of 'dealing with people'.....There is so much deception these days...the mind boggles...
Will we ever rid ourselves of this 'evil'...

Pronanly not due to the sheer scale of the "food industry"
and the lack of ethical standards as opposed th just legislation...
I'd go back to lentisl and beans but my guys won't take them at the moment.

It's easier than with meat..that is processed meat.We never ate much but since the accident and various other minor catastropes we did eat quite a few of the bettee tyoe.. but even then you cannot be sure.
Beans are good for diabetics so my husband has to eat them... now my innards are not happy...it would be easier if we didn';t need to eat!

I believe that until relatively recently it was possible to buy in Belgium a meat known as 'lapin sans tete' (rabbit without a head) - these 'lapins' were in fact 'chat' butchered and dressed so that the telltale ears, jaw and tail didn't give away the truth.

Sounds like more deception....Pity to resort to such tactics to evade people's sensibilities....

Quite.....It's 'deception' that is the problem....BUT...then, this is happening all the time in the food industry (and others)....'deception'...that is!

I have for a long time (since a child) eaten horse meat, had to come from a licenced 'game' supplier...I have no objections bar the vaccinations and also knowing that this is what in the produce.
I still prefer to buy from my local butchers.

In Germany there is a Dish called * Sauerbraten * it is now made with beef but was used to be done with Horse Meat and it was sooooooo Yummy.
I also ate Salami made from Horse Meat, I have no problem with eating Horse Meat as long as I have a choice and it is clearly marked on the Food labels WHAT and in what % meat is used.

- 2013-02-14 @ 16:50:21
Indeed!
I also enjoyed horsemeat salami...delicious. I've not had Sauerbraten (horsemeat) though I'd love to taste that...should be very good.....
As you say...as long as we know it is what it is said to be.
-
- 2013-02-14 @ 17:02:30
Oh it is sooooooo yummy the Sauerbraten, the one made with Beef too.
It takes ages so to make it because the meat needs to marinate for a couple of days.-

It seems most people are not averse to eating horse meat.....provided they have the choice 'to eat or not to eat'. Deception seems to becoming endemic in many areas of Life.

Well i haven't eaten meat for nearly 40 years and would not have eaten horse when i did. Of course when people are starving they will eat almost anything including each other and rats etc
But this is not the case now, it's the deception that gets me. Mac Donalds and Kentucky have been deceiving people for years. I think it is good that there is an putcry now. Hopefully it will lead to stricter supervision of food and contents. I'm outraged that aspartame and msg as well as other toxins are still allowed i processed food,
Is ot also true that veal is not popular i the uk ?
Apart from anything else we should all be eating less meat for the sake of our planet. Let there be beans instead of horse !!

I think the concern was on the deception and how {as Pauline mentioned,) the vaccinations and other chemicals in the meat were not meant for human consumption.
As the comment above me expresses it is the deception.
And I ditto the comment by

You would probably be unaware unless somebody told you.
I remember an American war film eons ago. Young American compliments the cook on the meat he has been eating. Very nice and all that BS. What is it? Monkey, says the cook. American vomits!-

Hi Mala!
We are all 'slaves' to our cultural influences - often unaware of it....Some people consume loads of stuff much more injurious than perceived 'obnoxious' foods/drinks..
Another good day here...Hope your Friday is good....Week-end beckons....
Hugs!

In Germany they give the Lasagne with horse meat away to poor people now. I think that this is a good idea.
